We begin this lauded tour which should be called 10 in 1 by taking the Panamerican highway to Alajuela, Costa Rica's second largest city and view several monuments of historical interest including the Juan Santamaria and Mango Park.
We pass Alajuela and start entering coffee country - visiting the Doka Coffee farm and it's famous Coffee Tour. We eat breakfast here and visit the beautiful coffee plantation, and learn how coffee is processed.
We continue on our ascent to the Poas Volcano - passing more coffee fields, fern, flower and strawberry plantations.
By this time the altitude causes a change in the vegetation and we begin to enter the cloudforest surrounding this massive volcano. The crater is impressive - one of the largest in the world - with it's sulphur lake and fumaroles can be seen and sometimes a strong sulphur smell impregnates the air.
We pass into the Atlantic region of Costa Rica and stop at the La Paz Waterfall Gardens, a natural park, we will walk along gorgeous natural pathways in the rainforest and see the White Magic Waterfall, the largest in the area.
The park also offers a butterfly farm, one of the largest in the country and the hummingbird gallery. We will eat lunch here.
We continue our descent and reach Puerto Viejo and take an adventurous boat ride on the Sarapiqui River. Relax and enjoy all the exhuberant forest and wildlife around you.
On our return to the Central Valley of San Jose we will pass through the wild Braulio Carrillo National Park - one of the most important rainforest reserves in the country.
Includes: Breakfast, coffee tour and plantation visit, Poas Volcano visit, entrance to La Paz Waterfall Gardens and Butterfly Farm and hummingbird gallery, waterfall trail. Lunch buffet, Sarapiqui river trip with refreshments aboard and passage through Braulio Carrillo National Park.
